Making music is creative, enriching and developmentally wonderful at any stage of life!  My students and I have great fun delving into the world of music, piano repertoire, composers, technique and creativity.  My teaching style facilitates learning and growing together through weekly lessons, scheduled group classes, and performances.

Piano lessons are 60 minutes and are paid monthly in advance. My home piano studio is located in Fabulous Ferndale, Michigan where I have a beautiful Steinway B 7’ grand piano.

It’s important to me that all my students, classical and those interested in improvisation and jazz, receive a strong foundation in classical training. Of essence is imparting the joy of making music and of being musical. We study a diverse range of musical styles. All students receive instruction in functional keyboard harmony and analysis, theory, sight-reading and transposition, and ear training. Students learn how to play with both technical accuracy and ease through learning The Taubman Approach, which saved my career after retraining from debilitating tendonitis and CTS in my right hand. My love of improvisation and composing is imparted to my developing artists through creative work and if interested, jazz studies. Parents are encouraged to be involved in the learning process.

Musicality combined with understanding the score, insight into the composer and the period of music, is taught. Students have a variety of musical choices from which to choose, exploring their own voice and style. Many students enter and perform at:

  • Michigan Music Teachers Association's Student Achievement Testing
  • Federation Festival
  • Solo & Ensemble
  • Oakland University's Piano Enrichment Day
  • Master Classes through Livonia Piano Teachers Forum & Metropolitan Detroit Musician's League
  • Special Recitals: Assisted Living Facilities, Duet Recitals, Halloween Recitals, Holiday Recitals
  • Spring Recital
  • Adult Recital

I am especially proud that over the years, many of my junior-high and high school students have performed concertos, are pianists in their school’s jazz bands, for musicals, choirs or as a church pianist, and play 'gigs'. I encourage my students to attend Interlochen, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and Metro Detroit Area summer classical and jazz music programs through area colleges. Many continue their private music studies while at the university level, and most importantly, they have a strong love of music making for life!

I am currently a member of:

  • National Association of Music Teachers (NAMT)
  • Michigan Music Teachers Association (MMTA)
  • Livonia Piano Teacher’s Forum (LAPTF) - Past Vice President, Honor's Recital Chair
  • Metropolitan Detroit Musicians League (MDML)
  • Southeast Michigan Jazz Association (SEMJA)
  • Camerata, Federation Music Club - Past President and Vice President
  • Tuesday Musicale - Soloist
  • Past member and V.P. of Oakland Piano Teachers Forum.

Along with my music degree in Piano Performance, I'm state certified through MMTA's certification process.

Highly sought after as adjudicator for area piano festivals, I enjoy encouraging budding pianists.

My presentation as lecturer/performer with “Jazz for the Classically Trained” has been given to many area music organizations. It is my pleasure to also perform on other presenter's music programs.
